Board & Batten Siding
Thin strips of wood are placed over vertical seams, creating a box effect known as board and batten. Board and batten siding has alternating wide boards with narrow strips that create visual interest and aesthetic appeal. This siding type has become a popular option throughout the state of Utah and beyond. Because of the unique look, an older home can have new life when board and batten style siding is installed. New homes look sleek and well put together with board and batten siding. Not all homes will benefit from this style, but it has its own unique benefits and styling options for those looking to boost the appeal of their home exterior.
Unlimited Siding offers this design in many materials because we see how it benefits Utah homes. Board and Batten siding is just one of our many options, but it has become a trendy option for all homeowners. Our other siding options are just as durable and aesthetically pleasing if Board and Batten is not your style.
Size Of Boards And Battens
When it comes to the size of boards and battens for siding, the boards are typically about 1 foot wide and can be placed either vertically or horizontally. No matter the orientation, the narrow wood strips known as battens are placed along the seams to cover them up. These strips are about ½ inch wide and are layered over top of the boards to give a sleek but dynamic look.
How Modern Design Stands Up To Harsh Weather
No matter what siding material or design you choose, it needs to be durable in order to last. Protecting your home is no easy task, especially if you live in a climate with harsh weather conditions and heavy storms. While board and batten may be a trendy option, it is definitely durable against moisture, pests, and much more. Because of the covered seams, board and batten siding can resist moisture buildup better than other siding options. Hidden mold or mildew won’t be a problem with this dynamic siding.
Appearance
Some people refer to board and batten siding as barn siding, since it gives the appearance of multiple panels and a farmhouse type feel. The size of the boards will have a dramatic effect on the way the home looks. Size variations in the boards and the batten will change the look of the home’s siding as natural light creates unique shadows in the deep boards across the home.
There are also many different types of board and batten siding. Different materials may be better for your climate than others. Our experts at Unlimited Siding recommend vinyl siding to all of our customers because it is the most durable material on the market. Boards and battens can be made out of aluminum, wood, or fiber cement as well.
Board and batten siding can be placed in a vertical or horizontal orientation to accommodate different home styles. Depending on the depth and shadows you are trying to achieve with your home, you can customize the size, orientation, and color of your board and batten siding. If you like this style, many people incorporate it into bedrooms and living rooms inside the home. This has helped aid in its popularity growth.
